Where does the vessel data come from?

Vessel data is retrieved through the Watcher unified data API. The server selects the appropriate provider based on the data type.

AIS, or Automatic Identification System, exchanges vessel identity, position, course and speed information between ships and shore systems.

Are vessel positions real-time?

Timeliness depends on the underlying AIS source, coverage, network latency and server-side caching.
